Senator Reverend Warnock Applauds New Measures to Ease Gas Prices, Calls for Administration to Hold Greedy Oil Companies Accountable

Press Release

Date: April 12, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Today, Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) applauded the Administration's announcement to allow gasoline with a 15% ethanol blend to be sold this summer to ease gas prices. The announcement comes after the Senator previously called on the Administration to do more to help lower gas costs. Additionally, the Senator called on the Administration to do more to hold greedy oil companies accountable and for Congress to pass his legislation to waive the federal gas tax.

"Gas prices in Georgia remain stubbornly high," said Senator Reverend Warnock. "Today's announcement to ease gas prices this summer is an important step toward bringing relief to Georgia drivers, but it's not enough. The Administration needs to do more to hold greedy oil companies accountable for taking advantage of war in Ukraine to keep prices high, which I'll keep pushing them to do. Additionally, Congress needs to pass my legislation to waive the federal gas tax and save Georgians as much as possible at the pump."

Senator Warnock has been fighting to lower gas prices for Georgians and hold greedy corporations accountable for shady practices. In February, the Senator introduced the Gas Prices Relief Act to give Georgians an immediate break the pump by temporarily suspending the federal gas tax. After the Senator's bill introduction, Georgia followed suit and suspended the state gas tax. The Senator visited a Sandy Springs gas station to speak with drivers about the sky-high cost of gas and how a break at the bump would support them. Last week, the Senator sent a letter to President Biden urging the Administration to immediately increase scrutiny of big oil companies given recent market volatility and swiftly target any corporate greed and profiteering. At last week's Commerce Committee hearing, the Senator pushed for Congress to do more to protect Georgia consumers from sky-high prices at the pump, and increase transparency in oil markets.
