Congresswoman Bush Statement Celebrating Next Steps in Staff Unionization Efforts

Today, Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01) released the following statement after the Congressional Workers Union made history yesterday by formally initiating unionization processes in eight House of Representatives offices, including in her own office.

"Yesterday, members of my staff and congressional workers across seven other House offices made history by initiating a groundbreaking unionization process. Every worker, regardless of where they work, should have the right to organize and bargain collectively. I am inspired by my staff and all those organizing who are leading by example in demanding better working conditions for themselves and the people we serve.

Let this serve as an important reminder to my colleagues, that we in Congress must be the change we want to see in the world. So, whether we want to see a federal minimum wage increase to at least $15, national paid leave, and labor rights and protections for all--that work and those values must be honored here on Capitol Hill and in our own offices."

In addition to Congresswoman Bush's office, the seven other offices seeking unionization include the Offices of Representatives Chuy Garcia (IL-04), Ro Khanna (CA-17), Andy Levin (MI-09), Ted Lieu (CA-33), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Ilhan Omar (MN-05) and Melanie Stansbury (NM-01). Congresswoman Bush was an original co-sponsor of Congressman Andy Levin's House Resolution 915, which gave Congressional workers in the House the right to unionize.
