Scott Statement on February Jobs Report

Press Release

Date: March 4, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Chairman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 678,000 jobs in February as the unemployment rate fell to 3.8 percent.

"Today's jobs report demonstrates that when we invest in students, workers, and families, we can build back stronger communities and a stronger economy. Since President Biden took office in January 2021, the economy has gained 7.4 million jobs. President Biden has created more jobs in one year in office than any other President on record. The Biden-Harris Administration and Congressional Democrats are building back a better America and putting our country on the road to recovery.

"This month--National Women's History Month--we reflect on the hard-fought victories we have achieved for women's equality, as well as the unfinished work that remains. To that end, I remain committed to advancing legislation to lower the cost of childcare, secure paid leave for all workers, and address gender pay inequities. We know that women were disproportionately pushed out of the workforce as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Women must have an equal opportunity to rejoin the workforce and receive equal pay for equal work as we come out of this pandemic.

"I look forward to continuing working with my colleagues and the Biden-Harris Administration to rebuilding an economy where everyone can share its historic recovery and growth."
