Rep. Joyce Votes to Support Military Pay Raise, Reverse Biden's Reckless Defense Cuts

Date: July 19, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Joyce M.D. (PA-13) released the following statement voting in favor of the FY23 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):

"Passing the NDAA is an essential component of our national security. This legislation provides our men and women in uniform with the tools, training, and resources that they need to keep our nation safe and free," said Congressman Joyce. "Further, this bill is a victory for communities across Pennsylvania's 13th Congressional District, from the Letterkenny Army Depot in Franklin County to the defense industry businesses in Johnstown. Funding from this legislation will ensure family-sustaining jobs remain in our community for years to come."

The 2023 NDAA would:

Support a 4.6% pay increase for servicemembers.
Provide a 2.4% pay bonus for enlisted personnel to counteract the impacts of inflation on military families.
Reverse critical cuts to nuclear arsenal and funds the nuclear sea launched cruise missile (SLCM-N) that President Biden proposed to cancel.
Fund the continued development of the Sentinel ICBM to upgrade our nuclear deterrent and keep pace with China's and Russia's nuclear build up.
Reverse President Biden's reckless cuts to our national security, restoring cuts to procurement, missile defense, and military construction.
Save more than $6 billion through the decommissioning and divestment of hundreds of older, less capable ships and aircraft.
Declare the record number of illegal crossings and trafficking on our southwest border is a crisis and a risk to our national security.
Extend the prohibition on a dishonorable discharge for servicemembers who refuse a COVID-19 vaccination.
Encourage the expansion of irregular warfare and information operations assistance to our Pacific allies to counter Chinese influence operations.

An amendment cosponsored by Congressman Joyce, which was included in the final text of the bill, would require the U.S. Navy to report to Congress on the power and propulsion requirements for the DDG(X) destroyer program, also known as the Next-Generation Guided missile Destroyer Program, parts of which would be manufactured in Johnstown, PA.
