LaTurner Opposes Gun Control Legislation

Statement

Date: June 24, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Today, Congressman Jake LaTurner (R-KS) opposed S. 2938, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. He issued the following statement:

"Today, I voted NO on Democrats' gun control package.

I was elected to protect and defend the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Kansans. The Safer Communities Act clearly infringes on our Second Amendment right to bear arms and right to due process. This bill funds "red flag" laws with taxpayer dollars, needlessly singles out Americans under 21, and criminalizes routine firearm transactions.

The recent shootings we have seen occur across our country are tragic, and the root causes must be addressed. I am proud to have cosponsored multiple pieces of legislation to put forward real solutions to help solve the mental health crisis facing America and better secure our schools. I will continue to work with my colleagues to prevent violent crime while also defending the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding American citizens."
