Stabenow Cheers USDA Steps Toward Stronger Supply Chain

U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) welcomed news from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Tuesday that it will move to strengthen and protect the country's food and agricultural supply chain. Chairwoman Stabenow led the effort to secure $4 billion in funding for supply chain resilience in the American Rescue Plan. Late last month she sent a letter to USDA encouraging the Department to quickly put programs in place to protect food and farm workers and secure the supply of food and agricultural products for American consumers.

"During the pandemic, we all saw how important the people who keep our food supply chain running are to our country. Whether they're farmers or truck drivers or grocery store clerks, they keep our shelves stocked and our families fed," said Chairwoman Stabenow. "The funding we fought for in the American Rescue Plan will help to protect and strengthen small and midsized meat processors, expand cold storage, increase access to healthy food, boost local and regional food systems, and support small farmers. Overall, these investments will help the supply chain recover from COVID-19 and be better prepared to weather the next crisis too."
