Today, U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ[1]08) released the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives' passage of congressional Democrats' so-called Inflation Reduction Act:

"President Biden and congressional Democrats are so out of touch with everyday Americans that they just pushed through a massive tax and spend bill that will increase taxes, gasoline prices, and utility rates all while making the lives of Americans worse. I don't want to raise taxes and costs for Arizona families just so Biden can hire more IRS agents and study methane gas emissions from farting cows (yes, this is in the bill)...so I voted no.

According to the Joint Committee on Taxation $17 billion in taxes will fall on households making under $200,000 annually. The bill increases taxes on U.S. manufacturers and small businesses which will increase consumer prices and worker lay-offs. It also raises taxes and fees on U.S. oil and gas producers, which will, in turn, raise gasoline and utility rates.

The bill also uses all of these new taxes to hire 87,000 more IRS agents to increase audits on everyday Americans, gives tax breaks to the wealthy who can afford to buy a new electric car, and increases the number of people who will qualify to get Obamacare subsidies.

Democrats are trying to fool the American people by saying their bill will reduce inflation, even though over 230 economists, multiple economic studies, and even radical Senator Bernie Sanders say it won't. Instead, their bill will increase taxes and government spending at a time when Americans are already suffering. I won't do that to the American people and that is why I voted no."
