Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a record low national uninsured rate of eight percent:

"Today's historic milestone offers further proof that, thanks to the bold leadership of President Biden and the Democratic Congress, health care in America is more affordable and accessible than ever before. Democrats have driven our nation's uninsured rate to an all-time low of eight percent, and we remain committed to defending and building on this life-saving achievement -- because we believe that health care is a right, not a privilege.

"The Affordable Care Act stands as a pillar of health and financial security for families across the country, providing quality health coverage to more than 35 million Americans. With our American Rescue Plan, Congressional Democrats took action to further widen the ACA's reach amid the hardships of the pandemic -- dramatically lowering premiums, expanding coverage and delivering average savings of $2,400 to a family of four. These actions are having a direct impact at the kitchen table: since President Biden took office, 5 million more Americans have gained health coverage. Now, the Democratic Congress is preparing to take further action to safeguard this progress. With our Inflation Reduction Act, Democrats will keep costs down and protect working families' access to quality, affordable health care.

"As we celebrate today's monumental achievement, House Democrats are continuing to put People Over Politics. We will never relent in slashing prescription drug prices, closing the coverage gap and building a healthier future for all Americans."
