Rep. Stewart, House Intel Republicans Demand Transparency from Administration on Fall of Afghanistan

Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) and fellow Republican members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) are demanding transparency from Secretaries of Defense and State regarding the rapid fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban.

On August 15, 2021, Kabul, Afghanistan fell to the Taliban following President Biden's withdrawal of all U.S. forces from the region. In accordance with Congressional mandates, the administration must provide the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) with the declassified information so they can properly conduct their investigation into the root causes of the collapse.

Rep. Stewart requested that the Biden Administration comply in December 2021. However, the administration has failed to provide SIGAR with any of the requested, and necessary, information.

With the anniversary of the fall of Kabul quickly approaching, Republican HPSCI Members are calling on the administration to publicly release their findings so SIGAR can begin their long overdue investigation.
