Statement

Date: Sept. 28, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Chairman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) released the following statement ahead of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. In 1985, then-Virginia Senator Robert C. "Bobby" Scott chaired the Joint Subcommittee on Hunger and Malnutrition in the Commonwealth and commissioned areport on hunger in Virginia.

"I applaud President Biden for organizing the first White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health in more than a half a century. We know that, even before the pandemic, far too many Americans struggled to put healthy food on the table. The White House conference is an important opportunity to develop a national strategy to end hunger and reaffirm our commitment to achieving a healthier and brighter future for all.

"Moreover, I am encouraged the White House's proposed national strategy aligns with the work of the Committee. The Healthy Kids, Healthy Meals Act, which the Committee advanced last July, reauthorizes federal child nutrition programs and helps all children access the healthy food they need to succeed throughout their lives. I look forward to working with the Senate and the Biden-Harris Administration to pass the Healthy Kids, Healthy Meals Act and achieve our shared goal of ending child hunger."
