Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman Arrested Outside Supreme Court During Protest for Abortion Rights

Press Release

Date: July 19, 2022
Issues: Abortion

Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) was arrested alongside several of her House colleagues and other protesters outside the Supreme Court while peacefully protesting the Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade. She was held for about one hour, processed, and released.

Upon her release, Congresswoman Watson Coleman issued the following statement:

A month ago, six reactionaries in robes ended the constitutional right to an abortion. They showed us they're willing to eliminate our freedom to make decisions about our own bodies.

The attacks on our personal freedoms must stop. On Friday, Democrats in the House passed legislation to protect the right to choose. We'll continue to fight until the right to bodily autonomy has been restored to all Americans.
