N.M. Congressional Democrats Welcome More Than $3.7 Million In AmeriCorps Funding For New Mexico Organizations

U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) and Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) are welcoming more than $3.7 million in federal funding from AmeriCorps. These grants will support New Mexico organizations working to improve youth engagement and environmental stewardship through service.

"I'm proud to see the American Rescue Plan continue providing opportunities for AmeriCorps members to serve our state," said Heinrich, the first AmeriCorps alum to serve in the United States Senate. "I look forward to seeing how these organizations will improve the lives of New Mexicans through their work to promote accessible education and conservation efforts."

"As our state recovers from the pandemic, I'm proud to see the American Rescue Plan continue to deliver for our schools and public lands," said Luján. "These critical public service projects will empower a new generation of leaders who will strengthen the social-emotional and academic learning support for students and build on essential land conservation efforts."

"Our kids are our future, and I am proud that the AmeriCorps funding we passed through this year's federal budget is investing in meaningful and culturally-relevant education for our Indigenous youth," said Stansbury. "This grant will support 25 AmeriCorps members assisting 280 Indigenous students statewide with social-emotional learning and out-of-school programming, strengthening the key educational resources we need that invest in our students' success as a whole person."

"Yesterday, I met with Michael, the AmeriCorps CEO, to discuss how to expand opportunities for our youth and empower our beloved New Mexico communities to address our most pressing challenges. It is great to see the funds we secured in the American Rescue Plan going to such incredible programs," said Leger Fernández.

AmeriCorps is awarding a total of $3,705,345 to three grantees operating in New Mexico. These grants are being provided as a result of the Fiscal Year 2022 AmeriCorps State and National Grant Competition and Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. They include funding from both FY22 Appropriations and the American Rescue Plan.

AmeriCorps is awarding funding to the following:

$1,543,380 in formula funding for the Serve New Mexico Commission that will be awarded to state organizations to support additional AmeriCorps members in the coming months.

$1,377,692 in State and National Grant funding and $414,263 in Education Award funding for Rocky Mountain Youth Corps.

$432,000 in State and National Grant funding and $129,900 in Education Award funding for NACA-Inspired Schools Network.

$352,273 in State and National Grant funding and $162,323 in Education Award funding for EcoServants.
