Last night, U.S Rep. Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) held a telephone town hall to discuss recent Supreme Court decisions and her critical legislative work to advance New Mexicans' priorities in Washington, D.C.

Over 4,600 New Mexicans tuned into the community discussion during which Rep. Stansbury dove into key issue areas such as her efforts in Congress to codify reproductive rights and her recent vote to pass key gun safety legislation, the bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

"In my office, we are heavily focused on a service model driven by the needs of New Mexico and our communities, and that's why these town halls are so important to us," said Rep. Stansbury. "This is a great opportunity for us to hear from all of you about what you're concerned about, what you're thinking about, and what you think we should be prioritizing as we're doing our work here in the district, as well as back in D.C.

"Like so many New Mexicans and people across the country, I was shocked and outraged by the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade the Friday before last, and leadership in the House of Representatives is currently working to tee up a package of reproductive justice bills in the coming weeks that we will hopefully pass to codify Roe v. Wade in statute," Rep. Stansbury continued. "However, we have already passed one of these bills, which I am proud to co-sponsor, which is the Women's Health Protection Act, and it failed in the Senate. So in order to get these bills passed and to the President's desk, we urgently need the Senate to pick that bill back up, to find the votes, and to break the filibuster to move that bill."

Rep. Stansbury heard directly from community members who shared their concerns, questions, and priorities for New Mexico and investments in New Mexico's communities during the telephone town hall discussion.
