Press Release

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) delivered remarks on the House Floor Friday morning encouraging his colleagues to vote against Democrat proposed abortion legislation. Congressman Aderholt says this proposed legislation "places the United States on a shortlist with North Korea and China as countries with the most extreme abortion policies in the world."

Madam Speaker:

I rise today in strong opposition to this piece of legislation.

The legislation we're considering today doesn't just reverse the Supreme Court's recent decision to protect life, it goes even further than Roe v. Wade.

My colleagues on the other side of the aisle assembled this bundle of policies in an effort to inhibit and undermine the enforcement of pro-life state laws.

This bill, in combination with the so-called Women's Health Protection Act, seeks to undermine the will of the people, and places the United States on a shortlist with North Korea and China as countries with the most extreme abortion policies in the world.

Instead of inhibiting, we should be enabling the states that have chosen to extend the responsibility of protecting its citizens to also include the unborn.

The Alabama legislature enacted the Human Life Protection Act in 2019, reflecting the will of the citizens of the state. The bill imposed a near total ban on abortions in the state. I will not allow those voices to be silenced by radical federal abortion bills.

I urge my colleagues to oppose this measure, and all of the extreme measures yet to come attacking the most vulnerable.

I yield back.
