Murphy Votes YES on FY2023 NDAA

Tonight, Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) voted YES on H.R. 7900, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2023. The bipartisan legislation authorizes $850 billion in national defense discretionary programs, including nearly $235 million dollars for military construction projects at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

"I was proud to vote YES on this year's annual defense bill," said Rep. Murphy. "While the NDAA is far from perfect, this bill contains many significant wins for our military-heavy district, including $235 million for our military bases, a 4.6 percent pay increase for service members, $500 million for additional housing allowances, and expanded Basic Needs Allowance. Importantly, the bill also reverses President Biden's proposed cuts to defense spending and gives our military the tools they need to modernize our defense forces and counter Chinese and Russian aggression. As the proud representative of more than 89,000 service members and veterans in Eastern North Carolina, I will always fight to ensure our Armed Forces have the necessary resources to protect and defend our great nation."

Third District Victories | By the Numbers:

4.6% PAY INCREASE for service members with an additional 2.4% pay bonus for enlisted personnel.
$47.5 MILLION for a regional Communications Station at Hadnot Point, Camp Lejeune.
$91 MILLION for an Aircraft Maintenance Hangar at MCAS, Cherry Point.
$38.4 MILLION for a CH-53K Gearbox Repair and Test Facility at MCAS, Cherry Point.
$58 MILLION for F-35 Flightline Utility Modernization (Phase 2) at MCAS, Cherry Point.
$500 MILLION for additional housing allowances.
$750 MILLION to reduce costs of food and other necessities at military commissaries.

FY23 NDAA:

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 contains several wins to combat the Biden Administration's reckless cuts to our national security, ensure pay raises for our troops, modernize our military, counter China and Russia's aggression, and rein in the woke agenda that is being pushed onto our servicemembers by Democrats in Washington.

Includes a 4.6% pay raise for servicemembers and additional 2.4% pay bonus for enlisted personnel.
Authorizes $16.5 billion for military construction and family housing, reversing President Biden's proposed cuts.
Authorizes $500 million in additional housing allowances and $750 million to reduce food and other item costs at commissaries.
Establishes a Servicemember Parents Bill of Rights to secure the rights of parents in their children's education at DOD schools.
Pushes back on the woke agenda by clarifying that lethality is the centerpiece of our national defense strategy and any activities that do not increase lethality are a distraction from DOD's mission.
Authorizes 13 new ships and $250 million to expand and modernize our shipyards.
Funds the nuclear sea launched cruise missile (SLCM-N) that President Biden proposed to cancel and prohibits any reduction in the number of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).
Establishes a National Hypersonic Initiative to accelerate development of hypersonic missiles.
Authorizes over $7 billion for the Pacific Deterrence Initiative to counter China.
Requires comprehensive reviews of assistance provided to Ukraine by the DOD Inspector General.
Creates new incentives for servicemembers to report waste, fraud, and abuse, resulting in cost savings.
Saves more than $11 billion through decommissioning and divestments of older, less capable ships and aircraft and other reforms to DOD operations.
Includes a number of provisions strengthening the US-Taiwan relationship and reaffirming US support to the defense of Taiwan.
Extends the prohibition on a dishonorable discharge for servicemembers who refuse a COVID-19 vaccination.
Prohibits the implementation of the COVID vaccine mandate on DOD contractors until Congress receives a report on its impact on procurement timelines and readiness.
Fully funds the National Guard's operation and maintenance account to support a border deployment and clearly states that the border crisis is a national security issue.
