Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement after the House passed the Inflation Reduction Act:

"Today, the House passed a milestone achievement -- reducing Americans' health care costs, slashing the price of prescription drugs, and aggressively tackling the climate crisis.

"The Inflation Reduction Act will transform the lives of millions of American families and put our future generations on a brighter path forward. This bill contains the largest climate investment in our nation's history -- delivering the resources we need to fight back against the climate crisis. It will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, invest in environmental justice for frontline communities, and help families make their homes greener and more sustainable, all while cutting energy costs.

"For years, I have been fighting to lower health costs, and this legislation gives us important tools to make that happen. By capping out-of-pocket costs and finally allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with big pharmaceutical companies, we are giving millions of Medicare beneficiaries real relief from skyrocketing drug prices. We are also extending federal financial help for nearly 13 million Americans buying ACA plans -- directly impacting what Sacramentans will pay for health coverage on Covered California in 2023.

"This legislation puts Sacramento's families first. It provides real solutions to build a more prosperous future -- and it does all of that while requiring big corporations to pay their fair share, reducing the deficit, and making sure no one who makes under $400,000 sees a penny more in taxes. I was proud to vote yes on this monumental legislation and I will continue to build on this progress to create a fairer, cleaner, more resilient tomorrow."
