Hinson Calls for Congress to Pass the Social Security Fairness Act

Press Release

Date: Oct. 26, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) is calling for Congress to pass H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, bipartisan legislation that ensures first responders and teachers receive their full Social Security benefits. Hinson plans to sign the discharge petition for H.R. 82 to force Speaker Pelosi to bring this legislation to the floor for a vote.

"Iowa teachers, police officers, first responders, and other public servants have dedicated their lives to bettering our communities and deserve their full retirement. The Social Security Fairness Act will ensure Iowa public servants receive the benefits they have earned. This is more important now than ever as Iowa seniors struggle to make ends meet due to inflation; Congress should pass this bipartisan legislation now." - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

Background:

Currently, the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision unfairly reduce the earned retirement, disability, spousal, and survivor benefits of lower-paid public workers.
The bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act eliminates these provisions, ensuring retired public servants receive their full benefits.
