Moolenaar Statement on Federal Court Ruling Ending Biden's Mandates on Head Start

Date: Sept. 22, 2022
Issues: Education

Last night, a federal judge struck down the mandates forcing Head Start teachers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and forcing children in Head Start as young as two years old to wear masks.

"This ruling is a victory for parents and students across the country. Biden's mandates have created a crisis in Head Start with staffers and volunteers leaving the program and parents taking their kids out of the classroom. Biden's decision to force masks on kids as young as two years old has had disastrous effects on their learning and social development," said Congressman John Moolenaar. "President Biden should not appeal this court ruling and end this harmful policy for America's children."

Earlier this week, Congressman Moolennaar renewed his efforts for this mask mandate to be rescinded as the Head Start program is struggling with staffing shortages and declining enrollment. Previously, Moolenaar supported Saginaw Intermediate School District in its lawsuit against the Head Start vaccine mandate, sent a letter to President Biden to end the mask mandate, and called for a vote in the House to repeal it after the U.S. Senate passed bipartisan legislation to revoke it.
