Murphy Statement on White House Announcement of Office of Gun Violence Prevention

Statement

Date: Sept. 22, 2023
Location: Washington
Issues: Guns

"The anti-gun violence movement has been advocating for an office dedicated to this work for a long time. I'm so excited President Biden has taken this monumental step and that Vice President Harris will be at the helm. There is no one better suited to lead an Office of Gun Violence Prevention than my friends and champions of the movement, Stef Feldman, Greg Jackson, and Rob Wilcox. Stef was crucial in our push to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, Greg has played an indispensable role in advancing the work of community violence intervention, and Rob is an expert on the kind of evidence-based gun safety policy we know saves lives. This office is going to make sure the full potential of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is realized, and I'll continue my push to codify it and ensure ending gun violence remains a top priority for future administrations."
