Boozman: Tax Increases Will Hurt America

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today called on the Congress to protect the American people from massive tax increases by making permanent the tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003, announcing his support of the "Tax Increase Protection Act."

The legislation, to be offered by Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), would erase the sunset provisions of the 2001 and 2003 tax relief packages passed by Congress, which has lead to record revenues and prosperity.

"The American people don't need to be haunted by the specter of a $400 billion tax increase at the end of the decade," Boozman said. "We can ensure that more people have more control of more money by passing this bill to make the tax cuts permanent.

"If we do nothing, five-million low-income families who pay no taxes will now be hit with a tax bill," Boozman continued. "This is unacceptable, as are increased taxes on small businesses, and a $500 per child tax increase on families.

In Arkansas, taxpayers face an average tax increase of $2462.10.

"Arkansans are at risk for a significant increase in taxes, unless we can continue the tax cuts we've all enjoyed over the last six years. Increased taxes on the poor and working families of Arkansas are not the answer to balancing the budget," Boozman said.
