VOTERS SHUT DOWN SENATE SWITCHBOARD AND BURY THE IMMIGRATION AMNESTY SELLOUT

U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) today released the following statement following the defeat of the immigration amnesty sellout this morning. The Senate did not gather the 60 votes needed to end debate and move ahead with final passage of the immigration amnesty sellout. The motion failed 46-53.

"The American people spoke up and not only shut down the Senate switchboard, but also shut down an irresponsible amnesty bill. I want to thank each and every Floridian who voiced their concerns and buried this bill. I will continue my efforts to make sure that amnesty does not rear its ugly head again.

"American families recognize that they would pay the immediate price of illegal immigration with overcrowded schools and overloaded emergency rooms. Put simply, this bill would punish hardworking American taxpayers and reward illegal immigrants.

"We must enforce our existing laws, secure our border, and have secure documents to know who is entering and leaving our country. Gaining control of our borders and enforcing our laws will lead to an end to illegal immigration without amnesty," said Feeney.
