REP. BECERRA ON THE SCHIP- AND MEDICARE-ENHANCING CHAMP ACT

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Later today, the House Ways and Means Committee will mark up H.R. 3162, the "Children's Health and Medicare Protection Act," comprehensive legislation that both reauthorizes the State Children's Health Insurance Program for another five years and makes critical adjustments to Medicare that will ensure beneficiaries have access to physicians without seeing disruptive premium increases. Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), the Assistant to the Speaker of the House and a member of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, supports the CHAMP Act and will vote to report it favorably out of committee.

"This new Congress promised Americans that it would take our country in a new and better direction," Rep. Becerra said. "Providing health care for five million uninsured children keeps that promise. This Congress also understands the need to improve Medicare for our seniors and give them better services for their taxpayer dollar."
