Hagel Statement on Vote in Favor of Amending the Foreign Intelligence and Surveillance Act

U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel issued the following statement today after voting in favor of the Senate passed legislation to amend the Foreign Intelligence and Surveillance Act (FISA), which passed the Senate by a bipartisan vote of 69-28. Senator Hagel is a member of the Senator Select Committee on Intelligence:

"This bill gives our intelligence agencies more capability to collect intelligence as they protect the national interests of our country and stay within the boundaries of the constitution. Technology has overtaken the 1978 FISA law and this bill will ensure that our intelligence agencies have the necessary tools and flexibility to deal with 21st century threats and realities. It has taken over a year of hard work to reach this bipartisan consensus, and I believe it is clearly in the interests of our country."
