Pearce Applauds President's Decision on OCS, Calls on Congress to Act

Today, Congressman Steve Pearce applauded President Bush's decision to lift the executive moratorium on developing America's deep water resources in the outer Continental Shelf. He made the following statement:

"Today's action by the President is long overdue. This is the first step toward increasing America's domestic supply of energy and helping to bring down the price of gas for Americans," said Pearce. "Now, Congress must do their part to remove the remaining roadblocks. The American people want action and the President has moved us in the right direction. It is time for Congress to do the same."

"I have introduced legislation to help us use our OCS resources to lower prices today and fund a clean energy future for tomorrow. I urge Speaker Pelosi and her colleagues to allow us an open debate on this important issue."

Pearce's legislation is H.R. 6301, the Clean Energy, Lower Prices Act. It would allow for leasing in the outer Continental Shelf and the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge and use the royalties to invest in a new Alternative Energy Trust Fund.
