Hello friends and neighbors!

Hopefully, you all had a chance to read my "Trail Talk" blog post regarding the recent space shuttle Discovery mission. Space is a hot topic again today as I want to make you aware of a rally designed to show support for NASA and our country's space program. Please read about the Link to Launch rally further down in the newsletter. The reason I keep bringing up the issue of space is because I truly believe that there is a clear link between our space program and our national security, our culture, and our economy.

Thank you for your support!! ~ Bill
District Dispatches

There has been a lot of exciting news coming out of District 15 recently. Here are two of the biggest announcements:

* City of Kissimmee - Osceola County Named 2008 All-American City - A huge congratulations goes out to the City of Kissimmee - Osceola County for being named a 2008 All-American City by the National Civic League. The All-America City Award is America's oldest and most prestigious community recognition award. Since 1949 the All-America City Award has encouraged and recognized civic excellence, honoring communities of all sizes in which citizens, government, businesses, and voluntary organizations work together to explain how they are successfully resolving critical local issues.

Kissimmee and Osceola won for three programs devoted to health, inclusion and diversity, and grass-roots leadership. They were a finalist last year and the only Florida city among the 10 winners this year.

* Indian River Community College to offer Bachelor's Degrees - Congratulations also go out to IRCC! On Thursday, June 12th, Governor Crist signed into law a legislative bill that will significantly expand Bachelor's degree opportunities at Indian River Community College. The new law designates IRCC as one of nine colleges included in the State College Pilot Project.

Demonstrating strong student, business, and community support, over 700 students have enrolled in IRCC's nine workforce-oriented Bachelor's degree programs launched in January 2008. These high-demand Bachelor's degree programs focus on the critical needs areas of teacher education, nursing, organizational management, public safety, and health care management. IRCC also received Baccalaureate-level accreditation last June from the prestigious Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Link to Launch Rally

If you care about space and the space shuttle program and you want to make sure our policy makers keep NASA fully funded, then you will want to join Link to Launch on Monday, June 23rd at Port Canaveral. At 9:00 am, a Senate subcommittee will be meeting inside the Port Canaveral Authority building to discuss the future of our country's space program. We want to have a huge crowd outside to show support for space so please come out to the Link to Launch rally!

Link to Launch is a movement started by people in Florida to raise the awareness of the nation and our policy makers that Space needs to be a priority for America. NASA exploration efforts are the reason we have satellite communications, advanced computer technology, and the jobs, entrepreneurs, and commercial success that make the U.S. a world power. Our leaders need to see that there is a clear link to security, our culture, our economic competitiveness, and our Space Program.
