CARSON STATEMENT ON THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF HURRICANE KATRINA

To commemorate the third Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Congressman André Carson released the following statement today:

"Three years ago the Gulf Coast was rocked by one of the deadliest hurricanes to ever hit the United States. Hurricane Katrina devastated communities, destroyed homes and drastically disrupted the lives of thousands.

"Today, the cities and towns in the Gulf Coast are beginning to see their communities rise from the rubble. People are returning to their neighborhoods, homes are being rebuilt and schools are reopening.

"However, while some progress has been made, much more needs to be done to make the citizens of Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida whole again. That's why it is vital that Democrats and Republicans continue to work in a bipartisan manner to support initiatives that fully invest in the Gulf Coast's public infrastructure. By building better roads, bridges, levees and dams, we can rebuild communities, restore people's faith in government, and reaffirm our nation's commitment to helping those most in need.
"I extend my support, thoughts and best wishes to all those who were victims of this catastrophic storm."
