Carson: More Needs To Be Done To Make College More Accessible And Affordable

Press Release

Date: Dec. 10, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

"Today's report issued by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education detailing how the United States is lagging behind other nations in the areas of college accessibility and affordability is both disturbing and alarming. Much more needs to be done at the local, state and federal levels to not only make college more accessible and affordable but to also increase enrollment and graduation rates at our nation's institutions of higher learning.

"By increasing enrollments in our post-secondary, vocational, college and graduate programs, we can better ensure the financial standing of millions of working families while also maintaining our nation's overall competiveness in the global economy. I will continue to work with my colleagues in the next Congress on initiatives that expand the College Costs Reduction and Access Act, GI Bill for the 21st Century Act and other worthwhile measures that seek to ensure that a college education is more accessible, affordable and attainable for working American families."
