Hare Statement On Bush-McCain Failed Trade Policies

Press Release

Date: Sept. 10, 2008
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

Congressman Phil Hare, a member of the House Trade Working Group, released the following statement in response to today's rally by Bush Administration officials and business lobbyists in support of unfair trade agreements with Colombia, South Korea, and Panama.

"There has been no greater contributor to our broken economy than the failed Bush-McCain trade policies of the last 8 years.

"Instead of working to create jobs, lower gas prices, and make health care more affordable, President Bush and his big business allies are making a last ditch effort to pass 3 unfair trade agreements that would dig us into an even deeper hole.

"Americans from all walks of life are sick and tired of trade policies that line the pockets of big corporations at the expense of their jobs.

"Today's rally shows just how out of touch the ‘trade at all costs' crowd is with ordinary working families.

"Like most Americans, I support a new direction on trade that gives our workers the opportunity to compete on a level playing field and believe Senator Obama gives us the best chance to achieve that goal."
