Cassidy: Anti-Energy Bill Adds Insult To Cap & Trade's Injury

Today, Louisiana Congressman Bill Cassidy made the following statement in response to a Natural Resources Committee hearing on H.R. 3534, the Consolidated Land, Energy, and Aquatic Resources (CLEAR) Act:

“This bill adds insult to Cap & Trade's injury,” said Cassidy. “It demonstrates a thorough misunderstanding of the role of domestic energy production in America's economy and national security. Energy production grows the economy, creates jobs, and strengthens energy security. Instead of building barriers to responsible energy production, Congress should incentivize it.”

Among the impediments to responsible energy production included in H.R. 3534 are:

* The creation of a new bureaucracy within the Interior Department to delay federal approval of new energy development;
* A provision stating that land may not be used for energy development if it could also potentially be used for another purpose; and
* The imposition of new fees and fines to discourage investment in domestic energy.
