Today, Congressman John Sarbanes voted for H.R. 4213, the Tax Extenders Act of 2009, which passed by a vote of 241 to 181. The measure will directly assist working families by extending property tax relief, the college tuition deduction and the deduction for teachers who pay out of pocket for classroom expenses.

The bill will also extend the research and experimentation (R&E) tax credit to businesses for another year, encouraging businesses to increase investments in technology and create more high-tech jobs for the twenty-first century.

"This measure will help millions of middle-class families manage the cost of a college education," said Congressman Sarbanes. "It will also make it easier for businesses to invest in the cutting edge technologies that make our economy the most innovative in the world."
