Alex Giannoulias Releases Statement Supporting the Passage of the HIRE Act

Statement

Location: Chicago, IL

U.S. Senate nominee Alexi Giannoulias released a statement following the Senate's successful passage of the HIRE Act this morning in a 70-28 bipartisan vote:

"Job creation has been and will continue to be my first priority for the families of Illinois. I applaud the Senate for taking this important and responsible step to create jobs, get our economy back on track, and reduce the federal deficit.

"Mark Kirk has consistently voted against proposals to create jobs in Illinois, and I hope that he will support this bill. With Illinois' unemployment rate over 11 percent, the people of Illinois are counting on him."

Giannoulias has released a detailed economic plan that builds off of his record of saving jobs in Illinois. He helped Hartmarx, the 137-year-old Illinois-based suit maker, avoid liquidation and save 600 jobs in Des Plaines by warning that he would pull state business from Wells Fargo, the factory's main creditor, if it chose to kill Illinois jobs.

Giannoulias' economic plan offers concrete proposals to get our economy moving again, create jobs, and put an end to the corporate practices that resulted in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.
