Fleming's House Resolution 615 Surpasses 3 Million Supporters

Press Release

Date: March 2, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. announced today that over 3 million Americans have offered their support for House Resolution 615 through Fleming's website, fleming.house.gov. These Americans represent all 50 states, with supporters of the Resolution adamant about its demand for accountability on the part of Congressional lawmakers. House Resolution 615 calls for any Member of Congress who votes for the government takeover of health care to pledge they will use the system they support. The Resolution currently has 104 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives and has not received a committee hearing or vote. After an initial outcry of support for H Res 615 from the public, Congressman Fleming also offered an Amendment to Speaker Pelosi's health care takeover bill, H.R. 3962, that would have automatically enrolled all Members of Congress and all Senators in the public option. The Amendment was voted down along party lines.

"This message continues to resonate across America for one simple reason -- the people of this country are sick and tired of being the victims of bad laws while their elected representatives are exempt from the consequences of their actions," said Congressman Fleming. "The American people have rejected this government takeover of health care 2 to 1 and it is past time that we hold Congress responsible for the decisions its makes. If a Member of Congress says increased taxes, higher premiums and government run health care are good enough for American families, then it should be good enough for their families as well. I urge the President and Democrat Leadership to listen to this overwhelming uproar from the American public, scrap the current legislation, and go back to the drawing board to craft a real bi-partisan bill that increases access and quality of health care while driving down costs for American families."

John Fleming is a physician and small business owner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana. He is a member of the House Armed Services and Natural Resources Committees.
