Talking with Small Business Owners

During the April work period, I am enjoying my favorite part of this job: meeting with Coloradans and traveling our beautiful state. This week, small business owners, entrepreneurs and community bankers shared some of their struggles and ideas on how to spur our economy and create jobs.

In separate meetings at the Loveland Chamber of Commerce and the Latino Chamber of Commerce in Pueblo, local business owners and leaders in Northern Colorado told me about the need to make sure that small businesses have access to capital so they can grow and hire more employees.

In Colorado Springs, students and faculty at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs shared the ideas for business and innovation that they have been developing through the Bachelor of Innovation (BI) Program. The "BI"- the only program of its kind in the country-combines business, engineering, globalization and communication to prepare students to be leading entrepreneurs in the 21st century and represents exactly the direction we need to go with higher education and K-12 education.
