Giannoulias Announces Best Fundraising Quarter Ever

Press Release

Date: April 13, 2010
Location: Chicago, IL

U.S. Senate Nominee Alexi Giannoulias today announced in an email to supporters that his campaign had its best fundraising quarter ever, raising approximately $1.2 million in campaign contributions without corporate PAC or federal lobbyist money.

Giannoulias pledged at the beginning of the campaign that he would not accept campaign contributions from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists, becoming the first U.S. Senate candidate in Illinois history to do so. By contrast, Congressman Kirk has accepted millions of dollars from corporate PACs and federal lobbyists during his decade in office. Kirk had already raised $630,000 from these sources for this Senate campaign, a figure that is sure to grow upon scrutiny of this latest filing.

"Congressman Mark Kirk has taken millions from corporate special interests and federal lobbyists, but my Senate campaign is about you and your interests," Giannoulias said. "I am proud of our campaign's historic pledge not to take money from these corporate special interests - but that means we are going to have to work even harder to fight back against the Republican smears. We have to defeat Mark Kirk, who has obstructed President Obama at every turn and pledged to lead the fight to repeal health insurance reform."

The campaign has approximately $1.2 million in cash-on-hand and over 3,600 grassroots contributors. According to news reports, Alexi is in the top 5 non-incumbent Democratic Senate candidates for total raised this quarter.
