Carter Praises Funding for Marines' IT Systems

Washington, D.C. - Today U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) praised the House for appropriating $4 million for providing information technology backup systems for our nation's military, known as the Marine Corps Coop. The funding is included in the Department of Defense FY 2005 Appropriation Bill, which passed the House today.

"We need to take the appropriate steps to securing our military's IT systems," said Carter for requested the funding.
This funding will provide the resources needed to have a remote site in Texas to mirror IT operations and backup all IT operating systems of the Marine Corps.

"When our personal computers break down it disrupts our life and we lose invaluable information and work." Carter continued by saying, "Can you imagine if the same happened to our military? It's a security concern that this funding will help."
military to advance battlefield technologies," said Carter who made the appropriations request in March. "Both of these universities are leaders on homeland security and defense technology and it only makes sense that they work with our nation's leading military installation, Ft. Hood."

Faculty, staff, students and research engineers work at Ft. Hood with soldiers and leaders to address issues of operational and technical significance to the user. Carter said, "The continuation of this program is essential to our military and I am proud to help secure it."
