Nevada Senator Harry Reid today held a conference call with business leaders from the Las Vegas Latin and Urban Chambers of Commerce and Moms in Business to discuss ongoing efforts to create jobs and combat unemployment in the Silver State. Reid has led the effort to expand business tax credits that will benefit minority-owned businesses. Reid is currently leading the way to pass legislation that cuts taxes and extends provisions important for Nevada's small businesses while providing unemployment benefits for those struggling to find work.

"Legislation like the stimulus package and our recent jobs bill has prevented a bad situation from getting worse, and has delivered much-needed resources to small and minority-owned businesses in Nevada," said Reid. "We must continue to support Nevada businesses and extend the tax credits that free up capital for small businesses and renewable energy companies to grow and create jobs. We also need to extend unemployment insurance to help unemployed Nevadans get by as they look for their next job. I appreciate the work that these organizations do to strengthen Nevada's business community and will continue to work with them to improve our state's economy."

"Senator Reid has always delivered for Nevada's small business community, especially Hispanic-owned businesses. In addition to the tax cuts and funds to jumpstart job creation through the Recovery Act, Senator Reid also helped the Latin Chamber of Commerce secure funds to conduct a comprehensive eight-month program dedicated to developing community leaders to effectively serve the needs of the Hispanic community. We are thankful for Senator Reid's vision and leadership as he works to ensure Nevada's businesses get back on the road to prosperity," said Otto Mérida, President and CEO of the Latin Chamber of Commerce.

"Sen. Reid was really the first to recognize the power of moms in business," said Gina Robison Billups from Moms in Business. "I am so grateful as the director of an association of businesses that he understands what businesses need in this tough economic climate and the things that are important for working moms."
