Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, is urging President Barack Obama to enact a "National Call to Service" to aid Gulf oil spill cleanup efforts.

Brown tells Obama, in a letter sent today, that the goal would be to have the the Corporation for National and Community Service orchestrate an effort to help the cleanup in the Gulf Coast region by injecting resources from local businesses, coupled with the labor of young volunteers.

"Participating in the oil spill clean-up is an opportunity for these young people to engage in a meaningful enterprise, answer the call to service, and help mitigate the effects of this economic and environmental disaster," Brown said in the letter. "We call on you today to fully utilize the CNCS as a part of our nation's response in the Gulf."
