Issue Position: Economic Stewardship

Issue Position

It is no secret that the U.S. and Maryland economies are on shaky ground. Most important, American families have grown increasingly doubtful about their own financial security and their increasingly tenuous hold on the American dream.

In order to stimulate Maryland's economy, Comptroller Franchot is working to make sure that the State of Maryland has the resources to invest in our economic growth. That means aggressively enforcing compliance with the tax laws of our State. The better we enforce our tax laws, the more revenue the State of Maryland will have to reinvest in our economy.

But, that's not all we can do to strengthen the economy. The Comptroller's office will continue to promote a statewide vision for the life sciences industry as a long-term economic engine for Maryland. And, we will work with a broad grassroots coalition to repeal Maryland's tax on computer services, which serves to undermine our State's competitive edge in the information economy and makes it harder for Maryland small businesses to thrive.
