Location: Chicago, IL
Issues: Immigration

Yet again in tonight's ABC 7 debate, Congressman Mark Kirk refused to answer whether or not he supports the DREAM Act even though the legislation has been around for over 10 years.

Alexi Giannoulias slammed Kirk for continuing to dodge the question and reiterated his support for the legislation, a key component of immigration reform that will provide a legal path to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of immigrants who came to the United States as children.

"Congressman Kirk, whether or not you speak Spanish has nothing to do with whether or not you support the DREAM Act. Like a typical Washington politician, Kirk refuses to take a position on these critical issue for Latino families," said Alexi Giannoulias. "Alexi believes we should not punish individuals who were brought here as children, but are trying their hardest to live the American Dream, and that lawmakers must have the courage to stand up and support the DREAM Act so our best and brightest young people - those who have earned high school diplomas, who are of sound moral character and who have lived her for at least five years - have the opportunity to become citizens. As Senator, Alexi will fight for passage of the DREAM Act so it will come true for many deserving young people and benefit all Americans."
