Carson to Deliver Weekly CBC Message to America

Statement

Date: Nov. 19, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman André Carson will deliver the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Message to America this week. The Message to America, which is delivered by one member of the CBC each week, is aired on the American Urban Radio Network.

Over the next week, the following remarks will be played on more than 300 radio stations across the United States:

Hello, this is Congressman André Carson of Indiana's Seventh Congressional District and I am pleased to be speaking to you on behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus.

As we emerge from this year's election season, it's important to acknowledge the change that Democrats and the CBC brought to Washington in just two short years.

Through our actions, we were able to save our economy from collapse.

We've helped Americans get back to work after one of the most drastic increases in unemployment we've ever seen.

And our creation of a new Small Business Lending Fund has improved access to capital-allowing our small businesses to grow and create jobs.

It is because of these efforts that our country has seen the private sector add jobs for the tenth straight month.

Despite facing setbacks in this election, we can't give up on this successful agenda of change.

With recent reports showing that black male students continue to fall far behind their white counterparts in math and reading, we must finally reform No Child Left Behind so that it becomes more than just a slogan.

We must continue to fight for financial literacy programs for young adults to help them learn basic financial skills like budgeting, saving and maintaining manageable debt.

And we must secure American jobs by closing tax loopholes that reward companies for shipping our jobs overseas.

There is much work left to be done.

It is my hope that as we move closer to the start of a new Congress, we can find common ground on these and other critical issues.

We stand ready to work with the Obama Administration and our colleagues on both sides of the aisle to move this country forward.

This is Congressman André Carson of Indiana's Seventh Congressional District. Thank you for listening.
