Congressmen Ellison Votes to Extend Middle Class Tax Cuts

Press Release

Date: Dec. 2, 2010
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Congressman Keith Ellison (MN-5) released the following statement following House passage of the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010 (H.R. 4853), which makes permanent a series of middle-class tax cuts set to expire on December 31, 2010:

Today I voted to provide tax relief for thousands of working Minnesota families. 97% of families and small businesses across America will benefit from these tax cuts, with a typical family saving approximately $1,000 per year.

Sadly, while my Republican Colleagues insist on saddling America's middle class families with debt to pay for tax breaks for billionaires, they refuse to extend unemployment benefits for Americans who cannot find work amid the Republican recession.

I call on Senate Republicans to stop holding middle class tax cuts hostage and pass this legislation immediately.
