Carson Statement on Don't Ask, Don't Tell Vote

Statement

Date: Dec. 15, 2010
Location: Indianapolis, IN

"Any patriotic American willing to give his or her life in defense of our country should never be forced to lie about who they are in order to continue their service. Today's vote brings our country one step closer to halting an extremely flawed policy that has removed hundreds of qualified troops from service.

"The survey conducted by the Department of Defense stated very clearly that our men and women in uniform support repeal and that by ending this discriminatory policy, we will not only preserve our national security, but strengthen it.

"This marks the second time that the House has approved a measure to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell in this Congress, while the Senate continues its struggle to act. There is no reason to delay this any longer, and it is my hope that the Senate acts on this repeal before adjournment."
