Press Release

Date: Feb. 4, 2011
Location: Hartford, CT

Following reports that the U.S. Department of the Treasury did not declare China a currency manipulator in its Semiannual Report on International Economic and Exchange Rate Policies, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) issued the following statement:

"This latest action by the Treasury Department is absolutely unacceptable. China has blatantly manipulated its currency and been given a free pass for far too long. This outrageous practice is costing Connecticut thousands of jobs and hurting many of our small businesses. I have long pushed the Treasury Department to declare China a currency manipulator, most recently sending Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner a letter in January, and I will continue to fight to level the playing field for Connecticut workers and American products."
