Fleming Rescission Bill Recognized by Group for Saving Taxpayer Money

Press Release

Date: Feb. 4, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Fleming announced today that his legislation, H.R. 38, was highlighted in the National Taxpayers Union Foundation's (NTUF) newsletter, The Taxpayer's Tab, as the "least expensive bill of the week." If enacted, H.R. 38 would rescind the Health Insurance Reform Implementation Fund which was originally appropriated to pay for administrative expenses to carry out ObamaCare, saving the federal government $900 million dollars. H.R. 38 was also included in the Republican Study Committee's Spending Reduction Act of 2011.

"The American people are fed up with out-of-control spending in Washington, and are ready for a change in the way their taxpayers dollars are spent," said Fleming. "Republicans heard this message loud and clear and are getting serious about rolling back spending levels and cutting waste. With the help of the American people and groups like the National Taxpayers Union, Congress is finally going to get our federal budget under control and address the serious spending problems facing this country."

"Congressman Fleming's legislation reflects both a concern for the federal deficit over the near-term and a concern for the impact that the entire health care law will have on taxpayers over the long-term," said Pete Sepp, Executive Vice President for the National Taxpayers Union. "Given the commitment of so many lawmakers to address both these challenges, the already substantial list of cosponsors to H.R. 38 is likely to grow considerably."
