The Connecticut Congressional delegation wrote to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate Wednesday urging him to extend the time period for seeking a major disaster declaration for the record-breaking snowstorms that hit the state January 11-12.

The delegation wrote in support of Governor Malloy's request for the extension, in the wake of multiple storms that have hit the state this winter.

Dear Administrator Fugate,

We are writing in support of Governor Dannel Malloy's request on behalf of the State of Connecticut for an extension to the time period allotted for seeking a major disaster declaration for the record snowstorm which occurred on January 11-12, 2011. This will allow additional time to complete the joint FEMA-State Preliminary Damage Assessment.

Connecticut has been struck with a series of storms and severe winter weather since the January 11-12 snow storm. State agencies and municipalities have the dual task of performing ongoing response and recovery operations from the multiple storms and collecting detailed documentation essential to requesting a disaster declaration. We understand that the joint FEMA-State Preliminary Damage Assessment is near completion, but more time is necessary. We ask that you grant Connecticut's request.
