Rep. Becerra Votes Against the HAMP Termination Act

Statement

Date: March 29, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, House Republicans voted to approve H.R. 839, "The HAMP Termination Act of 2011." Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, voted against the bill and released the following statement:

"When the housing bubble burst, millions of families lost their American dream to foreclosure. Unless the housing market stabilizes, which is crucial to our economic recovery, more families are going to lose their homes too. But rather than improving a program to help families stay in their homes, today's action only shuts down an avenue for help without offering any alternative. Congress should be fighting to fix our broken housing market, reduce long-term federal deficits and put Americans who lost their jobs through no fault of their own back to work. This bill accomplishes none of the above."
