Fincher Votes To Repeal Wasteful ObamaCare Spending

Press Release

Date: April 14, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Stephen Fincher (TN-08) voted today to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund. This fund, established by Obamacare, provides the Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary with a slush fund to administer and spend federal funds without further Congressional Approval.

"Today's vote to repeal Secretary Sebelius's slush fund is another tangible step to defund Obamacare," Fincher said. Under Obamacare, the provision would provide more than $17 billion to the HHS Secretary for the next ten years.

It also provides the HHS Secretary the authority to spend the slush fund on anything from jungle gyms and bike paths to funding lobbying and political education.

"To say this is wasteful spending is an understatement," Fincher continued. "Programs like these only further the fact that Obamacare is reckless and harmful to our economy. I will continue efforts to defund this irresponsible government takeover of our health care system and replace it with common-sense reforms."
