National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC) and California National Organization for Women President Endorse Hahn

Coming on the heels of yesterday's powerful endorsement from Emily's List, a group that supports pro-choice women, today Janice Hahn received the endorsements of the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC) and Patricia Bellasalma, President of California National Organization for Women.

"In light of the recent attacks on women by extremists in Congress, we need to make sure that we elect Representatives who won't just be another vote for women, but, who will stand up and fight any attempts to roll-back the progress that women have made in America," said Lulu Flores, National President of NWPC. "Janice Hahn is known for being a fighter and for caring about the people she represents--especially women. We are proud to endorse Janice Hahn for Congress."

"Janice Hahn has been a steadfast leader and advocate on the City Council for protecting a woman's right to choose, fighting Republican attempts to derail funding for Planned Parenthood, and a powerful voice for universal healthcare," said Teray Stephens, President of NWPC California and Vice-President of Board Development, NWPC National Board.

"Janice Hahn is the clear choice for the residents of California's 36th Congressional District," said Patricia Bellasalma, President of California National Organization for Women. "Her opponent, Tea Party candidate Craig Huey, is out of touch and too extreme for California. His statements of wanting to outlaw abortion in all cases, including if the life of the mother is in danger, are outrageous. And, he should be ashamed of himself for saying that doctors who perform abortions should be put in jail. California NOW pledges to do everything that we can to ensure Janice Hahn wins on July 12th."

"When it comes to a woman's right to choose, there is no negotiating," said Dr. Carmen Schaye, NWPC South Bay President, and Recording Secretary NWPC National Board. "Janice has tirelessly served the women of the South Bay as a role model and mentor for women. She is a paragon of the grassroots community and is a strong pro-choice candidate."

"Having the support of these leading women's groups helps to send a message that I am the candidate who is in touch with, and represents the values and beliefs of California's 36th Congressional District," said Councilwoman Janice Hahn. "If elected to Congress, my agenda will be to fight for more good jobs, protect Medicare and Social Security, bring our troops home from wars abroad, take care of our veterans when they come home, defend a woman's right to choose, clean our environment, and continue to expand healthcare coverage for all Americans."

Earlier in the week, Hahn was endorsed by Governor Jerry Brown, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Congressman Steny Hoyer, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Congressman Henry Waxman, Congressman Howard Berman, DCCC Chairman Steve Israel, and the California Democratic Party.
