With no democrat on the ticket, 2 republicans will compete for Lieutenant Governor in the 2011 elections.

State Treasurer Tate Reeves and District 49 Senator Billy Hewes will face off in the republican primary.

During a reception Monday night Reeves said that he's running because you need good strong people in the legislative branch of government and true fiscal conservatives.

"If you look at my record as our state treasurer, I've been the one who's really been stand up for what I believe in, even when it wasn't politically popular," said Reeves. "Most of the time I was standing up for what was the most fiscally conservative approach to managing our government. We need to continue to elect people that believe in what they stand for and actually stand up for what they believe in."

The republican primary is set for Tuesday, August 2, 2011.
