Majority in Mississippi: Polling Puts Reeves Up By 40

Press Release

Date: July 6, 2011

Polling done by On Message Inc. for the Tate Reeves campaign finds the state treasurer up by a very comfortable (slight understatement) 56-16 margin over Billy Hewes in the race to be the next lieutenant governor. The polling gives Reeves a 60-5 favorability spread versus only a 26-13 spread for Hewes. Other findings showed Reeves got his highest marks in the Jackson market, while also even leading in the Gulfport-Biloxi market (home base of Hewes).

Since negative ads have become a pretty significant issue here, the poll shows that 28 percent of voters who had seen a Hewes ad were less likely to vote for him because of it; versus only 26 percent would said they would be more likely.

Here is the analysis of findings sent out by the Reeves campaign: Polling Memo

As for the polling firm, On Message has done work for a number of Republicans in Mississippi including the state party, Sen. Thad Cochran and Rep. Steven Palazzo.
